The Northern Territory Music School – NTMS is a special purpose unit of the NT Department of Education. It is a unique specialist school, gazetted by act of Northern Territory Parliament in 1986. Our staff are based in urban, remote and regional locations and have a broad range of expertise, including instrumental tuition, classroom music, music technology, performance development and choral conducting. NTMS music teachers have tertiary qualifications in education and music, and are also in many cases professional musicians.
NTMS delivers instrumental and choral music teaching and performance programs to thousands of students, and provides support for teachers and music programs in schools across the NT. See our programs pages for information about getting involved.
NTMS also has a busy program of system wide projects and events, including VAMPtv, the Beat Festival, Battle of the School bands, the NTIME Forum and the Deadly Centre Music Camp.
NTMS develops online music education resources, has a music education resource library available for teachers, and provides regular professional learning opportunities for teachers.
NT Music School offers a range of instrumental and vocal teaching programs to schools across the Northern Territory and is responsible for NT wide programs such as the Battle of the Bands, VAMPtv and The Beat Festival.
