Apart from equipment and violin sales, Professional Violin Academy specializes in violin and theory tuition. Students receive a weekly one-on-one violin lesson with Ms. Procopio and each term student’s focus on working towards a specific goal. One-on-one theory lessons are also available and can be scheduled after your violin lesson.
In term one, students are to prepare for a technical examination – this involves performing scales, arpeggios and small exercises to Ms. Procopio who will write a report on your performance. By encouraging students to practice what is considered the basics of music learning with a high level of technique, this provides students with the tools needed to further their development so that they may pursue more challenging repertoire.
Term two focuses on performing to family and friends in a formal and ‘non-formal’ environment. This teaches students the formalities of performing on a stage and dealing with performance anxiety while showing parents and friends what they have learnt during the term.
Term three involves students preparing a piece from memory and performing some scales, arpeggios and exercises to an examiner. A high profile examiner is invited to assess the students and write a report based on the student’s performance. In September 2015, students performed to Professor Keith Crellin OAM, who is the Head of Strings at the University of Adelaide.
Term four is the last term of the year and is a celebration of what the students have achieved. Students perform a piece to family and friends and awards are handed out for exceptional performances and participation.
